Settembre 1920. Il Vaticano ordina a Padre Arno Moriani, "avvocato del diavolo", di indagare su un potenziale candidato per la santificazione in Transilvania. Ma ecco che all’ombra delle rovine inquietanti del castello di Vlad l'Impalatore, la sua indagine prende una svolta imprevista.
I vampiri, ovviamente, non esistono. È la posizione ufficiale della Chiesa Cattolica. Ma è così anche nelle nebbie della Transilvania?
